Golf Clubs in Girona Costa Brava

Emporda Golf Club - Forest Course, Costa Brava GolfEmporda Golf Club - Forest Course

The Forest Course at the wonderful Emporda Golf Club is reminiscent in places of some of the UK's finest tree-lined parkland courses, and also has similarities to other golf travel heavyweights such as Vilamoura's Old Course.

Located just inland from the Mediterranean coast, and with it's own excellent on-site golf resort hotel - the DoubleTree by Hilton Emporda Golf & Spa - plus the sister course Emporda Links (see below), this really is a great venue for a resort based golf holiday in the Costa Brava region.

Always in great condition, the Forest Course at Emporda takes you on a journey through some fogiving opening holes before the course begins to tighten as it climbs a little into the tree-lined back-nine stretch of closing holes which can be true card-wreckers due to their length and difficulty.  The last couple of holes really challenge even the very best players, with the climax of the round being the par 5 eighteenth which has a virtual island green.

Great value Stay and Play packages are available at the on-site golf resort hotel all year round, so why not get in touch for the latest and best rates in the market for a stay here at Emporda?

Emporda Golf Club - Links Course

Emporda Golf Club - Links Course, Costa Brava Golf

Noticeably different from its sister Forest Course, the Emporda Links golf course is a tougher American style track with plenty of bunkers and extra length to challenge your game.  With fewer trees the wind can be much more of a factor on the Links Course than the Forest, and therefore some traditional links-style shots such as the punch or bump & run can be useful weapons if you are to post a good score here.

Occupying the land just to the South of the on-site 4 star Doubletree by Hilton Emporda Hotel the Links Course uses the same clubhouse as the Forest and offers Stay and Play golfers a varied golf package whilst at this superb Costa Brava golf resort.

On-site practice facilities are also first class with excellent driving range and sizeable short game and putting greens to fine-tune your game before taking on the challenge of the Emporda Golf Resort’s 2 excellent courses.

Great value Stay and Play packages are available at the on-site golf resort hotel all year round, so why not get in touch for the latest and best rates in the market for a stay here at Emporda?

Golf Costa Brava

Golf Costa Brava, Costa Brava Golf

Club de Golf Costa Brava is one of Northern Spain’s first courses inaugurated in 1968 and the original 18 hole layout was designed by Hamilton Stutt. A further 9 holes has been more recently added with the design by local golf course architects Jorge Soler Peix and Eugenio Aguado.

Depending on the 18 holes chosen for your round at Golf Costa Brava the par can vary between 70 and 73, so you can immediately feel the difference between the various playing options around the course without even being there!

The front nine on the original 18 hole layout is tricky with narrow tree-lined fairways, but with a more open feel on the back nine.  Cork oaks, olive and pine trees border many of the fairways throughout the 27 holes, but it is only really the original front 9 where they are really in play.

The Costa Brava Golf clubhouse is an historic country house built in 1841 with the style and feel of a British Members Club and offers a warm welcome and great views over the golf course.

Club de Golf Costa Brava is near the Costa Brava golf coast which also features 4 other courses ranked in Europe’s top 50 with 3 more European Tour host courses also nearby.

Golf d'Aro Mas Nou, Costa Brava GolfGolf d'Aro Mas Nou

The wonderful golf course at Golf d’Aro Mas Nou (or Golf d’Aro for short) is perched very high up on a hilltop with wonderful views down to the Costa Brava coastline.

However, the hilltop location does not mean that Golf d’Aro is an overly hilly golf course and in fact it is very walkable throughout with only a few steep inclines to some of the more elevated tees.

The 18 holes skirt around the resort’s luxury residential properties which occupy the very top of the hill and give many of the holes a feeling of an amphitheatre on one side with steep wooded slopes to the other.  Of all golf courses, this is the one where straight hitting is absolutely required as there are few bail-out areas beyond the bounds of the fairways and if you possess a slight lack of directional control on your tee or approach shots you are certain to need a few extra golf balls here at Golf d’Aro!

That said, the course is extremely enjoyable even for higher handicap golfers as the generally excellent conditioning and location more than compensate for a few lost balls during your round.

To finish your day, the clubhouse is a castellated construction with wonderful views from many of the terraces overlooking the golf course and down to the Mediterranean below and offers a fitting and relaxing place to unwind after the challenges of the course here at Golf d’Aro Mas Nou.

Golf Platja da Pals, Costa Brava GolfGolf Platja da Pals

Golf Platja de Pals is pretty unique in many ways with a par of 73 (due largely to there being 3 par-5 holes on the back nine alone) and also that water only comes into play on 1 hole on the course (the 9th).

Without water and with extra length you may wonder where the challenge lies, but on arrival at the course the main challenge is clearly evident in the shape of the umbrella pines that line each and every hole and then to the large undulating greens which are a feature of most of the holes.

Straight hitting is rewarded on this coastal golf course, but veer off the fairway and you can expect your ball to be rattling round in the trees and coming to rest on the sandy soil, making a precision strike and good directional control key requirements of your recovery shot back into play!

Even with solid straight hitting and ball control, the bunkers – many of which are pot bunkers – can come into play on quite a few holes, so most golfers will find a challenge here at Pals.

The adjacent 4 star La Costa Beach & Golf Resort is a good quality golf resort hotel with large comfortable rooms and an excellent location near to both the beach and the golf club, so do get in touch for a quotation for a Stay and Play package here at Golf Platja de Pals.

Great value Stay and Play packages are available at the on-site golf resort hotel all year round, so why not get in touch for the latest and best rates in the market for a stay here at Pals?

Golf Girona, Costa Brava GolfGolf Girona

Occupying a beautiful plot of land in the hills above Girona on the Costa Brava, Golf Girona is a stunning golf course. With plenty of trees, well placed bunkers and plenty of lakes and ponds the visiting golfer needs to maintain a good level of concentration throughout the round.

The peaceful setting can be misleading in that you are playing golf so close to a major city and with fantastic views down to Girona itself the location is wonderful!

Similar to many parkland and tree-lined courses commonly found throughout Northern Europe, Golf Girona is similar to the courses in the area to the south west of London, and offers some fantastically well-designed holes by the renowned golf course architect FW Hawtree.

Unusually for a Spanish golf course there are no roads, electric cables, pylons or apartment blocks around the golf course, leading a truly natural feel to this excellent track!

You’ll need your A-game with you here at Golf Girona - and probably a full set of clubs too - as you are likely to need to think your way around the course and use almost all the weapons at your disposal to successfully navigate this excellent course.  With elevated tees on pretty much every hole on the back-9 you will also enjoy some spectacular views.

Even if you are staying down on the coast, why not combine a round here with a visit to the historic city of Girona – which will be a great day out!

Golf Peralada, Costa Brava GolfGolf Peralada

The golf course at the Peralada Wine, Spa & Golf Estate to the north of Girona towards the French border occupies a wonderful location with fabulous views of the Pyrenees.

The Peralada Golf Club is not that well known among travelling golfers, yet the golf course has hosted high level tournaments such as the Catalonia Open, the European Tour Pre-Q School and the Senior European Tour Q-School in the past – so the pedigree of the golf course is in no doubt.

With a par of 71 and playing over 6000m off the back tees, players of all standards will find the golf course challenging, yet accessible and enjoyable.

We strongly recommend combining your golf at Peralada with a stay at the on-site Hotel Peralada Wine, Spa and Golf Estate as there are few classier or well-run golf resorts anywhere in the world, although it does remind us of similar venues to be found on the Garden Route in South Africa…

Great value Stay and Play packages are available at the on-site golf resort hotel all year round, so why not get in touch for the latest and best rates in the market for a stay here at Peralada?

PGA Catalunya - Stadium Course, Costa Brava GolfPGA Catalunya - Stadium Course

Little can be said here that has not already been said about the Stadium Course at the PGA Catalunya Resort which is located just a few miles to the south of the city of Girona and the airport.

With a deserved reputation as one of the toughest golf courses in Europe, the PGA Catalunya Stadium Course also occupies a berth in the list of the most famous golf courses in Europe.

Having hosted multiple professional tournaments – including the Spanish Open only a few months after opening in 1998 – the conditioning at PGA Catalunya is second-to-none, although if you stray off the fairways even by a few centimetres you will soon discover that finding your ball in the extremely penal rough can be difficult!

Now with excellent hotel options available both on-site at the luxury Hotel Camiral and now also the La Vida Hotel, plus locally in the historic city of Girona, a visit to the golf club at PGA Catalunya and a round on the Stadium Course should underscore the reasons why this is one of the most famous courses in Europe.

Great value Stay and Play packages are available at the on-site golf resort hotels all year round, so why not get in touch for the latest and best rates in the market for a stay here at PGA Catalunya Resort?

PGA Catalunya - Tour Course, Costa Brava GolfPGA Catalunya - Tour Course

The Tour Course at the PGA Catalunya Resort is undoubtedly the “little brother” of the Stadium Course, but don’t be misled into thinking that it is some sort of poor relation!

The Tour Course is in fact a very worthy golf course in its own right and is a great way for higher handicap golfers to savour the PGA Catalunya experience whilst still enjoying one of the golf courses here (in our opinion the Stadium course is really only recommended for sub-18 handicap golfers due to its high level of difficulty; or maybe we just had a bad day when we played there?!)

With a strong layout among some of the stunning villas that dot the PGA Catalunya Estate and with a number of excellently designed holes featuring plenty of water and large undulating greens with some very subtle borrows and breaks, the Tour Course offers playability and enjoyment to all golfers.

The opulent clubhouse is a lovely place to wind down after a round on either course here at PGA Catalunya, and the proximity of the resort to Girona and the many accommodation options both on- and off-site make at least 1 round at PGA Catalunya vital if you are enjoying a golf break in the Costa Brava.

Great value Stay and Play packages are available at the on-site golf resort hotels all year round, so why not get in touch for the latest and best rates in the market for a stay here at PGA Catalunya Resort?

Torremirona Golf Club, Costa Brava GolfTorremirona Golf Club

Located almost due north of the Costa Brava capital city of Girona, Torremirona Golf Club features a scenic 18 hole golf course close to both the sea and the mountains.

Designed by the Spanish golf course architects Eugenio Aguado and Jordi Soler, the mature par 72 layout offers a modern American-style course running through a luxury residential complex.

With an on-site 4 star hotel - the Torremirona Hotel Relais - and the excellent practice facilities and pro-shop and clubhouse run by PGA Pro Steve Scott, the all-round experience here at Torremirona is one of a full-service golf resort.

Great value Stay and Play packages are available at the on-site golf resort hotel all year round, so why not get in touch for the latest and best rates in the market for a stay here at Torremirona?
